The original Rocketman, music icon Elton John’s early life story is now a motion picture and it features Aquabatix in a significant underwater scene.

The film, out in the UK today and in the US from May 31st, has Kingsman actor Taron Egerton take on the role of Elton in his earlier days. Playing alongside Taron is Richard Madden of BBC drama The Bodyguard fame and Billy Elliot’s Jamie Bell playing his songwriting partner and friend Bernie Taupin. Directed by Dexter Fletcher, who was called in to finish off Bohemian Rhapsody prior to making Rocketman, the film features numerous musical scenes with Taron performing the classic Elton John songs.

Aquabatix jumped at the chance to have six of their underwater performers in the movie. Under the direction of the film’s talented choreographer, Adam Murray, the Aquabatix stars did their thing in the water. They also appear on dry land for part of a scene as well. Without giving any spoilers away, the Aquabatix group also advised Taron Egerton on ways to help his eyes stop stinging when under the water for a long period of time. Filmed at Pinewood Studios Underwater Stage under the watchful eye of Diving Services UK, the underwater scene took two days to film, with a day on location as well.

Aquabatix behind the scenes on Rocketman

“Rocketman’s fantasy elements elevate it further – the underwater sequence during the title song following Elton’s desperate suicide attempt somehow becomes beautiful, with astounding choreography.” – Dan Wooton, The Sun

The crucial musical sequence is ‘Rocket man” which combines Egerton’s performance with a simultaneous bravura fantasy that includes balletical underwater elements. “It’s a pivotal moment in the story of Elton,” says Dexter Fletcher. Taken from Indie Wire.

Rocketman received a long standing ovation at the Cannes film festival. Its already being tipped for Oscar success next year.
