Did you catch the synchronised swimming and diving aquatic spectacular from Aquabatix on ITV’s prime time show, ‘The Games’?
The Games, a show featuring celebrities competing against each other in various Olympic sports and disciplines, was filmed live at the London Aquatic Centre for the swimming and diving night. Production wanted a visually captivating WOW factor performance for the opening to the show. So they approached Aquabatix.
Aquabatix created and performed a stunning cabin crew inspired aquatic opening number for the ITV show, featuring synchronised swimmers, divers and even TV presenters Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff.
For the opening number, Aquabatix was approached to create a Splash style number to capture the live audience and viewers at home. Splash was a former ITV diving celebrity show, which Aquabatix featured on weekly to perform with divers.
Aquabatix created a cabin crew themed performance, with the divers and synchronised swimmers all dressed up in cabin crew outfits that were specially made for the performance by the wardrobe department. Two divers also became body doubles to look like presenters Holly Wiloughby and Freddie Flintoff diving from the 10M.
Working closely with diving lead, Mat Cowen, Aquabatix and Mat created the routine, starting off with the synchronised swimmings diving in, in a cadence action before some of the divers appeared. The divers started on the 10M platform, with wo diving connected together. The routine built with the synchronised swimmers showing off their skill with their intricate leg movements and divers somersaulting off the 3M springboard, climaxing with a fast and furious diving cadence landing in the middle of a large synchronised swimming formation. Director Ollie Bartlett said about the Aquabatix performance “It looked fantastic” and Assistant Producer Alex Brockman commented “Thank you again for such an incredible opening! The crowd went wild!”. Whilst professional Strictly dancer Kevin Clifton told Aquabatix “your performance was insane!”.
