When Soho House called to ask Aquabatix if we would like to perform live with singer Mabel for the last of their Secret Soho Sounds sessions, we jumped at that chance!

Mabel, the talented and award winning singer, was performing on the rooftop next to the pool at White City House at Television Centre. Soho House were thinking of ways to create more of a finale feel to their Secret Soho Sounds sessions they had been running through September. Having performed live with singers before at Soho House on numerous occasions, they turned to Aquabatix.

Time was short. We received the call midday to perform that evening. Always up for a challenge, we pulled a team together within the hour. Once Mabel’s team had decided upon the track, which was her most famous hit ‘Don’t Call Me Up’, we had two hours to create a routine to it.

With sound checks going on, we didn’t get much time with music on the speakers for rehearsals , and had no underwater speaker either, but wIth our vast experience, we created a routine that would work.

Nothing compares to performing with a live artist. The atmosphere is electric. Add a sunset into that and it becomes something quite magical.
Whilst Mabel was performing the song prior to our collaboration, the girls walked onto deck and entered the pool. The crowd all cheered.

The band started playing the intro to Don’t Call Me Up and one of the Aquabatix synchronised swimmers started off the routine on the deck performing a dance. Mabel’s dance choreography to the track featured a lot of clicking of fingers so we made sure our routine paid homage to that.
Mabel sang a slightly slower version live to her hit, creating an almost a Capella feel with her backing singers. We featured a lot of creative shapes, and dynamic acrobatic lifts to wow the crowd.
Judging by Mabel’s fave she was loving the performance!

Mabel said we “were amazing” and we “killed it”. Soho House also commented that we “were so good” and that “we really made the show”.

Having performed live with Bombay Bicycle Club and Ella Eyre before at Soho House venues, we are now well established at performing with music artists live. For more details visit the Aquabatix event page or contact us on info@aquabatix.com
