Synchronised Swimmers Surprise David Walliams
A team of six synchronised swimmers performed in the Thames at Marlow Bridge on Friday evening to support David Walliams in his quest to swim the river for Sport Relief. The athletes from Aquabatix, a bespoke synchronised swimming and events company, surprised David with a choreographed routine to the classic 'Come Fly With Me' by Frank Sinatra, a personal favourite of David's.
The performance was broadcast live on BBC’s 'The One Show' by Chris Evans and Alex Jones. Wearing wet suits and vintage swim caps, the team were able to bring a smile to David Walliams’ face as he finished the fifth day of his gruelling 140 mile swim.
Katie Fried, Director of Aquabatix, said, "David has been a keen supporter of synchronised swimming for many years and we are so happy to return that support by surprising him in his latest swimming quest for Sport Relief. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of this epic challenge and do our little bit to put a smile on David’s face and keep his spirits high. We’re frequently asked to perform in many different and challenging venues but none more so than the River Thames on a cold September evening!"
David started his attempt as close to the Thames source as possible in Lechlade, Gloucestershire, and will complete the 140 mile stretch at Big Ben in the heart of London in just eight days. This, his toughest challenge yet, was the brainchild of David Walliams and rigorous training has been a permanent fixture in his diary for many months.
